How Canva for Education is connecting to provincial education systems with Snapplify
Canva wanted to make Canva for Education available through provincial education systems in South Africa. Reaching these users meant more than simply making the platform available. Canva needed a practical way to work with the right stakeholders within each department and give users secure, straightforward access through identities already established within their education systems.
Connecting Canva to education systems
For an EdTech platform working with large education departments, authentication can quickly become a barrier to rollout. Each education system has its own users and identity infrastructure, and adding new accounts or sign-in processes can create unnecessary complexity.
But successful rollout is not only a technical challenge.
Our established relationships with education departments and experience working with schools meant we could help Canva connect with the relevant stakeholders responsible for enabling the rollout. Our shared focus on improving access to useful digital tools for schools, educators and learners also provided a strong foundation for the work.
From there, Snapplify Access helped address the technical side of access.
We supported the SSO and SAML setup needed to connect Canva for Education with existing education identities. This gave Canva a straightforward way to onboard education departments without creating another separate authentication process for their users.
From integration to rollout across provinces
With the stakeholder and access foundations in place, Canva for Education was successfully connected with provincial education departments in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and Free State, with rollout continuing into additional provinces.
Rather than asking Canva to navigate each education environment and solve authentication separately, we could support both the connection to the education system and the identity infrastructure already in place.
For Canva, that means a more practical and scalable route to onboarding large education customers. For education departments, it means users can access Canva for Education through identities already used within their education environments.
And as Canva expands its reach, the same approach provides a foundation for connecting with more education systems without having to start from scratch each time.

The integration connects Ed-admin with Snapplify Engage, allowing relevant student, staff, role and class information to be synchronised between the platforms. This information can be used to create and keep users and groups aligned in Engage, rather than requiring school administrators to recreate them manually.
By integrating EdShed with Snapplify SSO, users at connected schools can access EdShed using their existing Snapplify identity. This reduces the need for another separate login and creates a simpler route from the education environment they already use into EdShed.
